iPhone Duo availability in India

Apple will open pre-orders for the iPhone Duo on October 16, with the device going on sale in India from October 23. The foldable iPhone will be available in more than 70 countries and regions from the same date, while availability will expand to another 28 countries and regions from October 30.

The iPhone Duo features an eSIM-only design worldwide, meaning it does not include support for a physical SIM card. Apple says more than 500 carriers worldwide support eSIM, including major Indian telecom operators such as Airtel, Jio and Vi. On the outside, it features a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display, which Apple says provides around 90 per cent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro.

Both displays use the same aspect ratio, allowing content to scale proportionally when moving between the inner and outer screens. They support ProMotion, Always-On functionality and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The larger inner display also features a nano-texture, glare-reducing finish and incorporates an under-display FaceTime camera.

Design: The iPhone Duo features a Grade 5 titanium construction with a mirror-polished finish. Apple has used Ceramic Shield on the back and Ceramic Shield 2 on the front for added durability, while the device carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The foldable hinge consists of more than 100 components and uses reinforced support ribs and ceramic fibre inserts to improve rigidity and durability.

Cameras: The foldable iPhone features a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, with the latter shared with the iPhone 18 Pro. It also includes a Center Stage front camera. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max bring several upgrades across their displays, cameras, performance, battery and connectivity, while continuing Apple’s traditional Pro-series design.

Display: Both models feature Super Retina XDR displays with ProMotion and Always-On functionality, along with peak outdoor brightness of up to 3,000 nits. Apple has also redesigned the Dynamic Island to occupy less space while displaying more information, including up to three Live Activities simultaneously.

Cameras: The biggest camera upgrade comes in the form of a new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. This marks the first time Apple has introduced manual aperture control on an iPhone. The six-blade aperture system offers four aperture settings and can automatically adjust according to lighting conditions and the desired depth of field.

The Pro models also receive upgraded Photographic Styles, along with professional camera controls for settings such as shutter speed and white balance. A new histogram provides users with additional control over exposure. Apple’s Reference Image feature can create a reference version of a photograph using signed sensor data, helping determine whether an image has been edited.

For video recording, the phones support Cinematic effects after capture at up to 60fps, as well as 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse recording and an updated Audio Mix feature.

Performance: Both Pro models are powered by the 2nm A20 Pro chip, featuring a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engines. According to Apple, the GPU delivers up to 40 per cent faster performance than the previous-generation A19 Pro, while the Neural Engine provides up to twice the AI processing power.

The phones also feature a redesigned vapour chamber with three times more surface area than the previous generation. Apple claims this allows the devices to deliver up to 40 per cent higher sustained performance, particularly during demanding workloads.

Battery: Battery performance has also received a significant boost. The iPhone 18 Pro offers up to 36 hours of video playback on eSIM-only models, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers up to 45 hours.

The iPhone 18 Pro can reach up to 50 per cent charge in around 15 minutes using wired charging and up to 50 per cent in around 30 minutes wirelessly. Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro Max can provide around seven hours of video playback after just five minutes of wired charging, while its new battery usage model estimates up to 30 hours of usage on a full charge.

Software: Both models ship with iOS 27 and support Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. Siri AI can use personal context from messages, emails and photos, understand information displayed on the screen and help users find information or perform actions.

iOS 27 also introduces iPhone Handoff, which allows users with supported carriers to switch between two iPhone models while retaining the same phone number.

Connectivity: The iPhone 18 Pro models feature Apple’s N1 wireless chip, bringing support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. They also introduce the C2 cellular modem, which Apple says provides faster upload speeds than the previous C1X modem while consuming 15 per cent less energy.
