Apple has taken a major step forward in its iPhone lineup with the introduction of its first-ever foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, unveiled alongside the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. With the Duo, Apple is entering the foldable smartphone segment with a design that combines a compact outer screen with a much larger display when unfolded, while the iPhone 18 Pro models focus on camera upgrades, performance and improved battery life.
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch inner display that provides a tablet-like viewing experience when the device is unfolded, paired with a 5.4-inch outer display for everyday tasks when the phone is closed. This allows users to access notifications, apps and other essential functions without having to unfold the device every time. Apple has also made the Duo eSIM-only, meaning it does not include a physical SIM card slot.
Alongside the foldable model, Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, bringing several hardware upgrades aimed particularly at photography and battery performance. Both Pro models feature a new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, giving the camera system greater flexibility in controlling light and potentially improving image quality across different shooting conditions. Apple has also focused on extending battery life, making the new Pro models better suited for users who rely heavily on their smartphones throughout the day.
Powering the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max is Apple's new A20 Pro chip, bringing the three devices under the same flagship performance platform. With its first foldable iPhone now joining the Pro lineup, Apple is effectively expanding the iPhone family into a new form factor while continuing to push improvements in cameras, performance and battery life.

Apple iPhone Duo: Key highlights
Apple’s iPhone Duo marks a major shift in the iPhone lineup as the company’s first-ever foldable iPhone. When unfolded, the device features a 7.6-inch inner display, making it the largest display ever offered on an iPhone. On the outside, it features a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display, which Apple says provides around 90 per cent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro.
Both displays use the same aspect ratio, allowing content to scale proportionally when moving between the inner and outer screens. They support ProMotion, Always-On functionality and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The larger inner display also features a nano-texture, glare-reducing finish and incorporates an under-display FaceTime camera.
Design: The iPhone Duo features a Grade 5 titanium construction with a mirror-polished finish. Apple has used Ceramic Shield on the back and Ceramic Shield 2 on the front for added durability, while the device carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The foldable hinge consists of more than 100 components and uses reinforced support ribs and ceramic fibre inserts to improve rigidity and durability.
Cameras: The foldable iPhone features a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, with the latter shared with the iPhone 18 Pro. It also includes a Center Stage front camera. Apple has introduced several fold-specific camera features, including Smart Take, Duo Preview, Kid Cue and Duo FaceTime. The device can also record 4K video at up to 120fps with Dolby Vision.
Software: The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27, which has been redesigned to take advantage of the foldable form factor. The software introduces side-mounted controls, dual Home Screen pages, Split View multitasking and an upgraded StandBy mode. The device also supports a beta version of Siri AI, which can use personal context and on-screen information to answer questions and perform certain actions.
Performance and battery: The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s 2nm A20 Pro chip, featuring a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engines. Apple has also equipped the device with a vapour chamber cooling system to help manage heat during demanding workloads. Its dual-battery setup is rated for up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer display, while Apple quotes up to 24 hours of mixed-use battery life. The device supports both fast wired and wireless charging.
Connectivity: Connectivity is handled by Apple’s N1 wireless chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. The iPhone Duo also uses Apple’s C2 modem for cellular connectivity. Apple Pencil support via USB-C is planned for later this year.
Apple iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max: Key highlights
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max bring several upgrades across their displays, cameras, performance, battery and connectivity, while continuing Apple’s traditional Pro-series design.
Display: Both models feature Super Retina XDR displays with ProMotion and Always-On functionality, along with peak outdoor brightness of up to 3,000 nits. Apple has also redesigned the Dynamic Island to occupy less space while displaying more information, including up to three Live Activities simultaneously.
Cameras: The biggest camera upgrade comes in the form of a new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. This marks the first time Apple has introduced manual aperture control on an iPhone. The six-blade aperture system offers four aperture settings and can automatically adjust according to lighting conditions and the desired depth of field.
The Pro models also receive upgraded Photographic Styles, along with professional camera controls for settings such as shutter speed and white balance. A new histogram provides users with additional control over exposure. Apple’s Reference Image feature can create a reference version of a photograph using signed sensor data, helping determine whether an image has been edited.
For video recording, the phones support Cinematic effects after capture at up to 60fps, as well as 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse recording and an updated Audio Mix feature.
Performance: Both Pro models are powered by the 2nm A20 Pro chip, featuring a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engines. According to Apple, the GPU delivers up to 40 per cent faster performance than the previous-generation A19 Pro, while the Neural Engine provides up to twice the AI processing power.
The phones also feature a redesigned vapour chamber with three times more surface area than the previous generation. Apple claims this allows the devices to deliver up to 40 per cent higher sustained performance, particularly during demanding workloads.
Battery: Battery performance has also received a significant boost. The iPhone 18 Pro offers up to 36 hours of video playback on eSIM-only models, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers up to 45 hours.
The iPhone 18 Pro can reach up to 50 per cent charge in around 15 minutes using wired charging and up to 50 per cent in around 30 minutes wirelessly. iOS 27 also introduces iPhone Handoff, which allows users with supported carriers to switch between two iPhone models while retaining the same phone number.
Connectivity: The iPhone 18 Pro models feature Apple’s N1 wireless chip, bringing support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. They also introduce the C2 cellular modem, which Apple says provides faster upload speeds than the previous C1X modem while consuming 15 per cent less energy.
